that rules out peak for the time being.

bias says it will release a full-tiger compatible update for peak this month.

Anyone else have input?

Why dont I see cubase or logical pro mentioned by anyone? I'd like to do matrices at 3-10 tracks, I see some of these software options only take two channels.

I'd say spark, but I'm doubting that's Tiger-compatible. I haven't tried, so I don't know.

I havent tried recording w/ Spark in Tiger, but it edits and saves wav/aiff files fine.

I've voted other. My favorite is Digital Performer. Kick the crap out of Logic both in interface and ease of use. Emagic/Apple claims Logic sounds better than the competition, but I think they've hit the marketing kool-aid one too many times. I've used and own both and they sound the freakin' same. I only updated Logic so I could get my favorite CD editing application back (WaveBurner), but what Apple did to that program is inexcusable. It's a total Piece of crap now. I haven't ordered the update, which supposedly fixes a few things, but it's still a former shadow of itself. It use to rule the CD mastering world, now WaveBurner can barely burn CDs that replicators like.

I'm really looking forward to Peak 5, maybe then I'll go back to enjoying Peak as a matering application. Still going to need and use MOTU's Digital Performer, but there will be nice options for CD and DVD mastering.

Digital performer, where do you buy this? I only see upgrades...
Spark is deprecated.
Peak hasnt been released yet (but its only stereo anyway). Deck doesnt do 24bit?
Felttip, only stereo again.

Steinberg Cubase looks good 24/96 up to 48 tracks, anyone know whats wrong with it? SE is only $99?

Apple Logic Express at $299 will do 24/96 up to 12 tracks. ouch $299

Do I really have any other choices for multitracking 24/96 besides Logic Express and Cubase SE?

There are a number of resellers online for Digital Performer 4.5. I know Sweetwater has it for around $500; so you can kind of use that as the starting point for shopping: I'm sure some outfit is probably selling it for less. I've seen academic discounts for the full version of DP 4.5 at around $320 (about the same as the competitive upgrade). I really want to get my hands on DP; but I'll have to wait a month or so to squeak the extra $$$ into the budget.

It looks like Cubase SE only does 8 tracks for $99.

Any reason for me to spend $500 on DP if Im only working with 8 tracks? Im looking strictly to master a live performance (board patch and mics), and sync if necessary.

Do any of these softwares have recording time limitations? Im assuming they dont record straight to standard wave.

DP4 has a 2 GB limit last I checked, but I never made it to 4.5. I think I was at 4.01 or something when I used it.

while it does have the 2gb limit, each channel is its own seperate file, so you can run twice as long as compared to a recording program that only records "stereo" files
