Were gonna see some new stuff coming out shortly.  3m was the first to develop a "No residue" Duct tape that we have been testing for a 2 years now.  It can be left in direct sun for up to 6 months without leaving residue. (its on the market already) it is a great improvement to the Shurtape PC 667

Shurtape is not far behind in developing high strength no residue tapes so i assume they will implement this to the gaffers (PC 628) tape as well.  Recently alot of engineers use the (FP 227) for marking there mic's and such.  Its a paper based tape so its not rubbery feeling but has a very strong adhesive and removes clean on most substrates.

Thanks for the tip, it's funny because I drove 25 miles to an Ace Hardware that said they had this exact Tommy Tape in stock, only to find out once I got there that they didn't.  I ended up ordering some similar silicone tape on Amazone for under $10 shipped for a 1" x 10' roll. :)

From the OP's description in the first post (except for the color - only seen it in white), it sounds alot like Teflon Tape. Plumbers use it for sealing pipe threads and it's cheap as hell. I've only ever seen it in about 1/2" width. You could certainly tie cables with it...

I don't seem to be able to insert a pic so....
