What Mics to buy for live sound?
« on: April 29, 2004, 11:14:27 AM »
Just though i'd get some advice from the masters before buying anything.  ;D

this seems like an awsome deal (2 mics 2 stands 2 cables for $80)http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040429080834024198149053734250/g=live/s=mics/search/detail/base_pid/271176/

but for $60 more those could be sure pg58s .... are those $60 better? how do they comapare with sm58s?

if you're looking for a decent vocal/instrument mic package, then yes it's a nice deal.  The mics are definitely starter mics, but you gotta begin somewhere!
What are you thinking of using them for?  Depending on that, then yes, the extra $60 may be worth it.

Im going to be using them mostly for vocals, once in a while thay might be used for an acoustic instrument (guitar most likely, but cello or brass might come up), thanks for the info +t

yeah, SM57 is a great all around mic for stage use on instruments.  Those other Shures that you were inquiring about should work fine for vocals.

we had a set of 3 PG58s for the band I work for a few months back.  Ended up taking them back and getting SM58s.  The PG series sounds a little tinny to me, YMMV
