Title: RMS for clapping
Post by: cd2go on August 15, 2008, 11:48:00 PM
I have a show in which there are several audience claps that go above the music level both at the end of the songs and during. I can probably zoom in and lower them individually but was thinking of using RMS normalizing to act a compressor. I assume that as long as I only "push" the clapping and not the music portion over 0dB, there should be no effect on the dynamics of the music.

Example:

Music peak: -10dB
RMS level of show: -25dB

Normalize RMS level to: -15dB
If clipping occurs: apply dynamic compression

This should have the effect of bringing the music up 10dB to 0dB and compressing the claps to 0dB, correct?

thanks,
