What do you all use for writing up text files? I normally use Notepad or WordPad. They don't seem completely compatiable though. Open up a file done with WordPad in Notepad and it is all one line. Vice-Versa and some of the formatting is screwy.

i use notepad for my text files. i also use the enter key so things aren't all on one line ;)
i set it to use word wrap too. dunno why you're having problems. maybe wordpad is saving it as a rtf file?

Ultra Edit 32 ... can load programming dictionaries to highlight key words/commands/comments, etc. Great for C++, VB, Java, HTML, PHP, SQR, and probably a bunch of stuff that I don't know about yet.
Oh yeah, I suppose I can do text files in there too ;)

I like TextPad (http://www.textpad.com/). It's stable can handle large files, and has lots of nice features. It would likely be overkill for you if you aren't a software developer or have to deal with a whole lot of text.

I still use List Enhanced (http://www.buerg.com/list.htm) (elist.com).
Heh...no, not really, but it takes me back a ways. Was a great DOS text editor in its day! God I love (and miss) apps that can be used strictly with keyboard commands.

I use textedit. Comes with OS X. ;)

bluezz666, if your referring to text files from archive.org, the formatting is getting screwed because the Linux servers its hosted on opens the text file and verifies the info. well, they dont run the file through dostounix/unixtodos convertors so the "returns" get replaced by those little square shapes and everything ends up in 1 line

Most programmer's editors (like Text Edit I mentioned above) have a utility to convert your line endings to/from DOS/unix so you could probably fix any files afflicted by this pretty easily.

Try turning on/off the word wrap function under format

Yup... this one rules. We use it's massive find and replace features w/ special characters all the time at work...

UltraEdit and vi (Once you get used to it) = good stuff

Yeah, UltraEdit will properly handle the *NIX carriage returns. Its search & replace functions are pretty good too...

This is what I am talking about on the weird. In WordPad(where I saved it as .txt not .rtf) the track times line up. Open it in Notepad and it looks like this. Try toggling word wrap to no avail.

Are you using tabs or spaces between your track titles and timing? I bet tabs...which is the problem. Apps often treat tabs differently. Try using spaces and a mono-space font in both editors and I bet you'll be fine.
FWIW, I also don't use hard returns within a paragraph, using only Word Wrap. That way, the text will auto-wrap to whatever resolution and width window the viewer is using.
