IRIVER vs. NJB3
« on: January 03, 2004, 01:05:25 PM »
hey all,

i was shopping around sound professionals and came across a recorder called the iriver with 20 gb of space.  i was wondering what the difference is between this and a njb3 because they looked very similar besides the iriver's smaller size.  any help is greatly appreciated!

peace,
danny

Try a Advanced Search on "iriver", there's been plenty of discussion of this in the past.  The primary problem with the IRiver is it has a 700MB or so file size limit.

Just make sure you try the advanced search - the standard search isn't so hot.  Even with the 700MB or so file size limit, I think there's at least one person here using the iriver.  FWIW...

I use my JB3 with an outboard ADC, so I set my levels there, but...I believe yes, going line-in to the JB3 you can adjust levels on the fly.

Check the Archival Info forum for a thread on the JB3, it includes some useful information as well as links to a website hosted by someone here with additional info as well.

Iriver doesn't have record meters on the LCD either, from what I have read...
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

no visabl emeter reading yet... but I recorded a show last night with a MD with levels running from my IRVERS optical out, and it sounds GREAT!! And the "levels" you can mess with are the Bit rates for MP3 and the external mic pre--not the line in, I think.....
Now all I have to learn the software for tracking.........
