Topic: Local bands with open taping policies in NYC...

Ok, i really want to start attending more shows so i can put my gear to work and fool around with all the different mic capsules i have for my soundpro at853's (i have omni's, hyper and cards).  Is there a site somewhere that lists local clubs with acts that allow taping?  Just wondering

a lot fo small/local acts don't care at all.. just show up early and ask them. they may request a copy but so long as you explain that you are not a bootlegger etc. they usually are pretty excited about it!

be careful with this though...I did this when I started taping, and ended up sitting through lots of VERY bad bands.  Just try to do some due dilligence before you catch a band...word of mouth, website, something...remember, not all bands that are open taping are worth taping (see John Mayer )

Interesting, sounds pretty good just by the song that was streaming on her site.  She's playing one gig in the Bronx, but you'd have to give me a heavily armored tank to go up there.  I'll bookmark her url and sign up to get emails when she's touring around, thanks!

As for everyone else, thanks for your comments, i'll definitely check out jambase and start taking to the streets...well...Greenwich Village at least, i know there's lots of small bars, cafes and other hang outs that probably feature starving musicians.

Ah, thats ok, i can still crotch it, i see Damien Rice at the bottom of the list...i've been hearing good things about him.  I'll definitely go thru the list though, i think its time i put my gear to work.

Keep in mind that Damien Rice DOES NOT allow open taping and you'll have to stealth.  It's been discussed here in the recent past.

but considering the show is at the beacon, stealth is easy

Tell him andrew sent you!  he'll be into it dude!  don't know if he will respond to email though- I am not sure that he has a computer... he moves from couch to couch there, from what I have heard.

He does send out emails for shows every once in a while.

He's great though.
