For the longer term it would be a better investment.

Otherwise if all you care about is built in mics :-/ Then get something cheap like the Tascam DR05 or Zoom H1n.

Hello! thanks for your answer. As I said, it would maybe be used for some shortfilms sometimes, but mainly for taking it everywhere in my pocket and recording all kinds of samples for using them later in music production. I do have a shotgun mic and I can easily borrow a dedicated recorder when I'm in the need of one, the thing is I want something to carry all the time with me, that's why the inbuilt mics should be as good as possible, as I don't wanna carry a shotgun with me 24/7.

Anyone out there with some more experiences to share? :)

It depends on the size of your pocket --- and your wallet --- but both the Sony PCM-D100 and the Tascam DR100mk3 are excellent recorders with very good built-in mics. But they are large and not cheap.

The smaller Tascam DR05 is a very underrated recorder. You should try it out.

Yes, I'd agree about that.

Rather than getting a recorder which does neither job well (such as an H4n Pro or H6, which are rather bulky to have as an "always with you recorder" but also suck as a field recorder for filmmaking) I'd suggest getting two recorders, one for each job at hand. Such as both a DR05 and a DR60D

great! thank you again for your answers, I aprecciate it! I will check the tascam or some other small recorders. My worries were about the quality of ther inbuilt mics being worse than other slightly bigger recorders such as tascam dr40 or roland, but I guess it makes sense to go for the lighter ones as the quality of the mics might not be that different
