AKG K171 Headphones - WOW!
« on: December 20, 2006, 10:00:52 PM »
Just picked up a set of these... listening to some 24bit FLAC files on my MacBook (which has a 24/192 capable soundcard) and man, do they sound amazing!

Figures that a company that makes amazing mics, should make amazing studio headphones too. I'm hoping to use these for monitoring at shows too.

agreed...

I tried/bought the usual suspects (Grado, Sennheiser, etc.) and never found what I was looking for... until snagging the K701's... audio supernova... just wish they weren't so power hungry.

How do they compare to the Sony 7506?  That is what I use.

Haven't used the K171s, but love my K501s.  Try a nice pair of open-back headphones sometime, if your listening environment allows.  World of difference, to my ears.

I use the 271s.  AKG makes a great set of cans.

For what and where I use them, I prolly should have picked up the 501s though. (totally open and higher impedance)  The 271s are very natural sounding and accurate.  They also have that little switch in em that turns the headphone off when you take them off.  I didn't think that I would like that so much, but it's actually a nice function.
