I am in need of a small recorder that can be used behind a Schoeps CMR>battery box setup. It needs to have a good A/D and solid connectors. After doing some reading, I am considering the edirol R09HR, sony M10, and edirol R05. Someone please give me some direction. Thanks in advance for your help.

I think this picture speaks for itself.  ;D

I posted in the other post as well but one thing i forgot to mention was the m10 has a 5 second pre-buffer. you just start recording and press play/pause when you want to start recording and it will capture the last five seconds.

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

I am very pleased with the function and quality of the A/D in the Sony M10. I can't compare to the other units listed here as I haven't used them, but I am a very happy M10 owner.

The PCM-M10 also has supreme battery life. Bring lots of AAs if you pick the Edirol.

Excuse my innocence, but what is the little box beneath the M10?  I mean, make and model, I'm aware of its function!

Naiant custom bbox.
Looks very sweet, if I only had the money to buy mics to match it:

What do the CMR's retail for? I know they are pricey...but if I win the lotto...
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

That's less than I thought. I will re-visit this setup come tax refund time next year.

On topic:
Louie, I really like the M10 over the R09HR, which I owned.  M10 has a larger screen, I like the dial on the gain instead of the buttons on the HR along with the just overall build of the M10.  ADC is good and the connections solid.

Ah, I thought CMR was just the box alone so I didn't understand where the cable came from, thanks for the help :)

Having owned both, I prefer the M10.  If you already own an Edirol, it'll be fine, but for me the M10's much higher battery life, internal 4GB memory, and (at least anecdotally) better sounding ADC takes it for me.  Personally I'm pretty indifferent as to the layout of the two, but the M10s is certainly nice, and I like the "peak lights" for open taping as well.

I found the PDF very instructive:
http://www.schoeps.de/documents/CMR-2006.pdf

So these guys have been out since 2006?! I guess they didn't take off in the taper scene because there was no off-the-rack bbox>3.5mm solution until recently - is that right?

Don't get the R-05 until it is fully tested by members here or, even better guysonic. There are reports that it won't accept as high a level as the R-09HR without distortion. The other 2 are great choices, but as previously pointed out, if you need long battery life the Sony is better.
