Best Recording Device
« on: September 20, 2004, 07:45:30 AM »
Hey everyone,

I've been using minidisc to record with but now am looking for something that will allow easy transfers to computer.  I have seen the new Hi-MD but there are alot of problems with that.  I have all the mikes that I need and the Denecke ad20 and stuff like that.  I just a, looking for a new device that will record uncompressed and be able to upload to computer without any problems.  Thanks in advance.   Peace, Musicmania

I use a Nomad Jukebox 3.  Does DAT quality and has easy USB or Firewire trasnfer to your HD.  Its not the greatest recorder, but it works.  It'll run about $200.

The next best would be a Sony DAT, and a bit perfect soundcard, like an Audiophile 2496.  This combo will run you about $500, if not more.

If you aren't concerned about size or price, Marantz offers a HD recorder, as does Fostex.

And then there are the Sound Devices...

***Do you have PHISH, VIDA BLUE, JAZZ MANDOLIN PROJECT or any other Phish related DATs/Tapes/MDs that need to be transferred???  I can do them for you!!!***

I will return your DATs/Tapes/MDs.  I'll also provide Master FLAC files via DropBox.  PM me for details.

Sony PCM R500 > SPDIF > Tascam HD-P2
Nakamichi DR-3 > (Oade Advanced Concert Mod) Tascam HD-P2
Sony MDS-JE510 > Hosa ODL-276 > Tascam HD-P2

jb3, no contest.
easy interface with the ad-20 via optical out.
records uncompressed wav at whatever sample rate you give it (44.1 from ad-20).
easy to use, long battery life with 2 internal batts.
total cost to get started, refurbished from creative on ebay, with extra battery, and an optical cable, ~$220.

no tapes to buy either with the nomad.

however, if i could afford a sd722, i'd be buying that in a second.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

I'm curious about the Hi-MD, with regards to the kind of problems you had with it.
