Title: OK, So whoze gonna help me find a computer DAT drive that reads audio? :P
Post by: Bri on June 25, 2003, 04:26:17 PM
just got a shn with this lineage...

archive python>DAT2WAV>SF6.0(fades, 48>44.1)>

so I looked into it and found this...

http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/dat2wav.htm

Seeing as how I have litteraly hundreds of DATs to transfer and am going through the audio decks like water, I'd love to get my hands on the hardware to do this. Anyone had any luck or make some rec's on a good cpu deck? Or should I avoid this completely?

Bri

here's a short thread about this:

apparently error correction (or the lack thereof is a big concern).  however, extracting at 2.2x speed is pretty nice.  my understanind is that you can get the SCSI card and a drive off of Ebay for pretty cheap.  I'm thinking of going this route to continue my archiving...don't know what the problem is, i just can't get myself to do transfers.

conner ctd 8000s I think was the drive I used to have.  I can probably also get a copy of cdwave...which I payed for since they send me the updates and I don't use them.  All that really needs to happen is the drive needs to be flashed and you should be good to go from there!

transfers are easy, press play on the deck, record on your pc, puff a nug, sit back listen to the dank show, hit stop. load into cdwav. puff a nug, sit back listen to the dank show again, track it at the same time. convert it to flac, upload it. easy like sunday mornin!

or keep wavelab set on 'stop if silence' and puff and walk away, go get food, get back, DONE...then track in about 2 mins. on cdwave.....but my only altercation is i can walk away......and i think my deck is hitting the end of the road..... :'( :'(

Hey Bri...look on DAT HEADS (both archives and real time ping) and ask for Wayne Hoaxly (not sure about his last name spelling) he seems to be chiming in on those subjects all the time.....I think he is in St/ Louis area.

Hope it helps

ok, so i bought a refurbished Connor CTD8000, which Mitch Hibbs told me to go with.  apparently the two-letter designation at the end of the model doesn't matter.  i got mine for $40 (buy it now) with a 30day warranty.  you can get em cheaper, but having a warrantly seemed like a good idea.  there are plenty more of these on ebay.

so now i need a scsi card...i don't know anything about scsi cards, anyone got any idea on what I need?  brand/model recommendations or specifications would be great.  thx.

SCSI is SCSI. Your best bet would be Adaptec, a used 2950 or similar is all you'd need, since these drives are at best SCSI-2.

Hell, I think I have a spare that I'd prolly be willing to sell/trade ya.
