Sony PCM-M1 head cleaning & alignment...
« on: April 13, 2004, 03:42:39 PM »
I just snagged an M1 for a really good deal.  I have a 1 year service contract on it, and want to make sure everything is in tip-top shape for my first outing with it.  What I was wondering is...how do you tell by listening if the tape heads are out of alignment?  Also, if the heads are dirty, will you hear some sort of tape hiss, or will it start making some sort of wonky noises?  Thanks for your help on this subject.

easiest thing to do- run a cleaning tape through it for 10-15 seconds, then record to another tape for a few minutes- if you know someone with a home deck or another deck, just play it back there- that will tell you if the heads are in allignment.  otherwise you can send it in to prodigital for a full checkup
