I need a T-bar :)
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:57:01 AM »
So I've come to the conclusion that I need a T-bar for my mics. I'm using a couple CA-11s, and I honestly have no idea what to buy.

Note I'm really just trying to figure out how much I need to scrape together since I have almost no money :p

It doesn't have to be great, just a simple T-bar that isn't too expensive that'll get the job done. :)

Thanks guys

It is lightweight and comes with 3/8 or 5/8 mounting bolts.

I like the KM 235, often rebranded AKG 235.  Due to the joints in the bar, you have a little more flexibility in moving the mics around.  But the real reason I like it:  two of them together + a jam nut can make for a nice, wide mountPictured here in solo form, along with a Bogen/Manfrotto Rapidapter + thread adapter.  The Rapidapter makes for eash on/off/rotation using a mic stand with a 5/8" stud.

If you're up for a little DIY, and have a little time, you could probably build a t-bar/mount setup for $5-10.  iirc, I've seen pictures of the CA's setup in 1/2" PVC couplers (45deg), joined with another 1/2" PVC rod.  I do the same thing, except with 3/4" pieces and have a nice 90deg NOS mount for a set of omnis.

I don't have a link to pics, but I know I've seen it on here.

That's a possibility for sure. Only hangup is mine have clips haha. I'm picturing it though and it seems like I could just do a small cutaway to allow for them to fit, which may also keep them "locked" in place...

you could always just buy a wooden ruler. drill a 3/8 hole in it and use a 3/8 male to 5/8 female threading adapter. you can secure it to the ruler by tightening a 3/8 x 16 nut on the topside. it would be slim enough to use a small mic clip and u could use the ruler to measure your distance. cheap, easy and practical.

For my CA-11 with clips, I used foamcore and cut to the shape I wanted and punched a hole in the center with a pencil. The hole cou;d then friction fit on the 1/4x20 stud on all light stands...

A KSM235 is a little overkill for these miniatures esp. with clips.

Alright so I went to Home Depot and got a bit of pvc for a total of $1.56 lol

It came out to almost PERFECT din as well, just gotta shave down one of the pieces a little to get it exact. I'm putting a hole in the middle bottom of the middle piece to get it on the stud, and I'm going to cut out the top so I can place a nut on it to secure it better. And the mics have clips, and clip at a just about the right angle :D

When I get done I'll post a couple pics, it's nothing special but it'll work!
