Pretty sure the JB3 is the only Nomad that has the right feature set...many limitations on the lesser models.

If you are going to use the JB3 mic in and not as a bit bucket, a Rockboxed iRiver has many more features, is easier to use, and is well worth the extra money.
AT853's (all caps)/CM-300 Franken Naks (CP-1,2,3)/JBMod Nak 700's (CP-701,702) > Tascam DR-680
Or Sonic Studios DSM-6 > M10

It appears that it does have a line-in for recording.

But that being said, it probably doesn't have level controls or meters  or has poor battery life or some other limitation.

It's too bad nomadness is gone or it would be easier to find info on this model.

Spend the extra money and get something better than the JBx recorders.  I had a JB3 for a long time and it rocked, but they are not supported anymore and they are starting to get worn out.  Look at the Edirol R09 or one of those.

Spending $100 for a recorder that doesn't work right isn't worth the $100 you saved on that $200 Edirol...

***Do you have PHISH, VIDA BLUE, JAZZ MANDOLIN PROJECT or any other Phish related DATs/Tapes/MDs that need to be transferred???  I can do them for you!!!***

I will return your DATs/Tapes/MDs.  I'll also provide Master FLAC files via DropBox.  PM me for details.

Jeff found all the right threads, read them for the full picture. Here's another one:
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=45092.0;all
Or page Bonzo71, he's the guy here who had most success with the JB1. This pretty much sums up all the pros and cons:
An update to the firmware will give you recording level meters.  I have one and have installed a cf card.  The nomad jukebox runs on 4 AA's.  With the CF mod and some good rechargeable AA's, you can easily get 6+ hours of wav recording.  The jukebox has line-in only (no mic/digi-in), so you'll need a preamp or battery box.  Also, it records in 15 minute chunks so you'll need to have some software to compile the wav files into one large file.  The files splits are clean..no missing samples.
Make sure you don't buy the Jukebox 2, which does not have the line-in.
Note that the firware upgrade gives you level meters! This thread that Jeff also found gives a few pointers how to perform the CF mod:
