DIY baffel disk between M10 internals?
« on: January 30, 2011, 10:57:28 PM »
I am a new M10 owner an am looking to improve the stereo separation between the internal mics. If I built a disk with a notch to fit between the mics, would that help? Maybe use dense foam with a fuzzy fabric on both sides?  Ideas?

Hey Imac, I've tried this myself, albiet very roughly and quickly. A piece of dense foam about 2"x3"x3" was lying around at work so I cut an M10-width sized notch in it and put it on. It seems to work pretty nicely and definitely spreads things out, although I haven't listened really closely yet for any nastiness caused by reflections. I'm sure with a round disk and a bit of dampening like you said the results would be excellent. The PCM-M10 definitely needs some help in this regard, so go for it!

Thanks SK-1, I will have to give that a try. It does make the M10 less stealthy, but I got a white one to see the buttons better. OBTW, if you punch a hole in a screen protector sheet with a paper punch, you can keep the back tripod mount from getting scratched.

Alternatively use "NCL Phase EQ" vst in post production - see previous posts in this forum.
