Zoom H1 Line Level Volume Setting Question

Have a friend recording local house band from soundboard to Zoom H1  Line in.  What should he set the Volume input at on the H1?

If it's with the consent of the band, just go there by soundcheck, start with the lowest gain and move upwards. Stop between songs and listen to the output.
That way you can define where the distortion sets in, and keep the gain well below that point.

If the H1 is like the H2, set it at 100 and use a variable output on the send to make the levels go up to but not over -0dB.

The H2 only performs optimally with levels set at 100. I do NOT know if the h1 is the same, but wouldn't be surprised if it were.
