Title: tskb-- rechargeable 9-volt batteries
Post by: daze on March 15, 2009, 01:49:08 PM
...I'm looking into getting a rechargeable 9v gizmo for my guitar pedals (and possibly for use in my st-9100 and sp-spsb-1, although I'm not sure if rechargeables really work well in these).  If anyone has any advice of what is good and what to stay away from, I'd be very appreciative.  Thanks!

Rechargables do work in the CA9100, but you have to make sure you buy 9.6V cells. (those labeled 9V only put out 8.4V).
Maha/Powerex is the gold standard that has been tested by several members here.
There are a handful of other brands that might work. I recently posted a market overview here:

If you try any of the other brands, let us know the results!

Thanks.  This charger looks like it might be promising:

Yup, that's the Maha/Powerex one...

One thing worth remembering: the battery brand and charger brand should always match when dealing with 9.6V cells.
So if you buy the Powerex charger, you will need to stick to the same brand of batteries for best results.

check out the i-power 9volt lithium rechargables.  I've been using them in radio mic setups heavily for almost a year without any problems, they're always there with steady discharge rates and rated capacity.

Highly recommended

Ooops, just read the fine print on these: "Please Note: The nominal voltage of this battery is 8.4V."
I don't know about guitar pedals, but Chris Church advises against these for mic preamps. Maybe the pedals are less critical to run on low voltage?

I've used the Maha/Powerex 9.6v cells in both Church & DPA preamps for the past year and am very happy with them.  I specifically chose them for the slightly higher voltage.  They measure around 10.5v freshly charged and around 9.6v when I pop them back in their special charger.
