Picking up a new Pre. Looks like it's going to be a m148.
Just seeing what y'all think I should do.
I love the 148 sound. & ease of the box. Never even touched A V2 but have a bunch of smoking tapes using one.
Any opinions on the 480>V2>500e would be appreciated.

well i think the difference, which im sure you know, is level of clarity. the v2 is going to represent EXACTLY what that mic does whereas the 148 is going to give you a lot more warmth to your tapes

The only real color the m148 will provide is some low end emphasis. Very accurate representation of what YOU hear, imo, running 148>uv22. 480's need that color imo. 481(3)>m148>500e....classic.

;D
If someone put a gun to my head and told me that I had to make a change in mics, I'd go 481(2)(3). Nice top and low end, sweet signature, the only reasons I prefer the b&k's is better midrange imo and the actives.

Tad get that brick ready. :)
-
I see some slutting going on over here...does this mean tad will be sporting the v3 soon?
-
you can always get a v2, but the brick is special. ;D

Now, Who has my heady blue blockers ?

you may think this is a joke, but if you have a m148, bluebloackers are a must. I mean the ugly ones too, accept no imitation. Check your local drug store, walmart whatever it takes, get a pair.
ps--they are not heady

very true.. m148 is pretty clean, not as clean as the Grace but pretty clean...

Julian didn't run the 148 much or at least not until I bought his 248 from him ;D After that the combo for Julian 480 tapes was a 148>500e or Mod SBM-1. There is some serious magic with the Oade box & 480's, I wouldn't even consider another pre-amp but I say that ALL the time & everyone must be sick of it by now! Get the brick & don't look back or if you don't want it, let me know 'cause I need another one.

The damage is done. It's mine!! Can't wait to run it.
-
id like to hear/run 480>148>v3 at some time too, just to see what all the fuss is about ;)
but im seriously diggin the 480>v3 sound over here!!

you don't need nothing... just run xlr out of the m148 to xlr in of the V3... this incentive for you to hook me up with that extra ticket ;)
