Do you have to do anything internally to have the V3 run on 12 volt power, or will it work with either 6 volt or 12 volt. Seems that that only difference is when the battery lights start to come on.
-
You're right about that... just be careful not to kill your SLA if you don't change the jumpers and run for a long time ;)

yea, I am pretty good about keepng track of time.
know the run time on a 12volt?
-
it depends on the amp hour of the batt....

Your answer is in the "power" section:

Brian, saw you got that schoeps package on oade. Welcome to the club....I bet you will love them

Yeah, I'm gonna give 'em a go. I really like my SKM140s, but I've found myself really enjoying the extra layer of detail I hear in the Schoeps CDs in my collection.
I'm not totally sold on which I like best, yet. I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I don't have to sell the SKM140s immediately, so I'm going to do some 1st/2nd set comparisons before I make my final decision.
(My name is Brian, and I am a gear slut.) ;)
Hmmmmmm...gearslut.net and .com are taken, but gearslut.org is still available... lol

Hi All,
V3 run time should be the same on a 6volt or a 12volt. The only difference is that it will run hotter (not problematic) if using a 12volt. As previously mentioned, the 12volt setting is really just a battery protection. Folks in the film industry use a lot of 12v equipment and often prefer to have all devices operating on the same voltage.
Personally, I have always had a my V2/V3's at 6volts even though I hit them with a 12volt. This way, you can run either. The reverse is not true.
One exception on batteries in the Eco-Charge EC-90 which utilizes a really cool voltage regulator that does not burn up the excess voltage in heat. People using the EC-90 with a V3/V2/DA-P1 or other 7.5 or 6volt device will actually get nearly double the run time from them as they would with a 6volt or standard 12v battery.
I hope this helps.

cool, so I can run the 12 volt, and make some grilled cheese on my V3, excellent, dual function ;)

Here's what you can do if you have a 12 power cable for your v3 and want to change it to 6v (i know this b/c i grabbed the wrong cable and wanted to change it):
On a 12v (EC-90) cable the "hot wires" are numbers 1(black)&3(red) and numbers 2&4 are jumpered together. To change it to work with a BP-50 just clip the cables off of the #2&4 so they are empty and then move the #1 to the #2 spot and sodder it! Make sure the keep the red cable in spot 3!
Thats it...alls good to go with a 6v battery/cable for your v3!
