Need help with clamps...
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:56:18 AM »
I own a Shure S15A Mic stand that I love. It is lightweight, tall and has a small footprint.  Unfortunately I accidentally broke the threads off of the top section.  I can no longer screw my T-Bar onto the stand.  I have never used clamps before.  Does anyone know of a clamp that I could get that I could use to clamp onto the stand so that I do not have to buy a new one?  Thanks in advance for ANY advice.  My only other stand at this time is actually a lighting tree from my DJ equipment that I modified.  It weighs about 25 lbs and the footprint is huge so any help would be appreciated.

Claude

Can you post a picture of what the damaged end looks like?  What should be there?  5/8-27 thread or ?

Thanks,
Mako

Could a Stand fitting w/ 3/8>5/8 adapter take care of this w/o a clamp?

That's something I was thinking.  A clamp would be unneeded weight.  An adaptor would be a cheaper and lighter fix.  That's why I asked to see the damage....  You can prabably buy a new end as well.

The Windtech C clamp that rowjimmytour provided a link for above is the best option I think.  For these components weight really isn't a concern.  The reason the windtech clamp is the best option is that you'll then have a clamp that you can use for thousands of different uses, including using it for the purpose that you're talking about.  You'll also be able to use the Windtech to clamp onto other people's stands or stuff you might find at the venue (leave your stand at home) or to put the clamp or your mics in different configurations that you might encounter.  Once you have that clamp, you'll never look back because it will save the day in ways that right now you can't plan for.

Very true and I have two of them and a super clamp in my bag at all times and the weight of the c clamp is never a issue and is built like a tank. I used it for my TL's for XY, Blumlein, and MS so it can stand some heavy mics.
