Bogen quick action C clamp question
« on: June 07, 2009, 03:58:10 PM »
I used this last night for the first time in a long time and I found that the brass piece at the end of the threaded screw that tightens down to clamp onto stuff fell off. I think it is supposed to be soldered on and not loose, but can't remember. I can still use it, but it's likely to eventually get lost. I wonder if Manfrotto has any kind of warranty on it?

are you talking about the quick release superclamp..? if you are there is a washer that keeps the block from going off the pin, but it is not soldered, it just fits around the top thread, but doesnt seem to want to screw up or down the pin thread...

The Super Clamp is not the same thing.  This is the quick release clamp:

Not sure about the warranty but the brass plate/disc is not soldered on. It is placed on the screw then the portion extending through the plate/disc is peened so the shaft is basically mushroomed out to keep the plate/disc from falling off.

Place the plate/disc back on the stem then use a very small ball peen hammer or something like a rivet setting tool or round end punch to flare the stem so the plate/disc is locked back in place.

That makes sense flipp - thanks! It looks like the flared part broke off but maybe I can get what's left to flare out..

EDIT: Here's what I was talking about
