Tascam DR-2D frequency response
« on: September 28, 2011, 10:09:51 PM »
Inspired by this thread:

http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=149215.0

I decided to test the frequency response of the mic-in and line-in inputs of my Tascam DR-2D.

First I generated white noise (in a 24 bit / 48khz aiff file) in Sound Studio, and ran a Fourier spectrum analysis on it:

I then played this signal back through USB out > Lyrix Headstage > Tascam DR-2D at 24/44.1, either mic-in or line-in.

Both mic-in:

And line-in:

Appear to have pretty flat frequency response.

Please let me know if you see any flaws in this methodology.

Edit:  Low cut set to OFF, of course.

Can you zoom in? The DR-07 test was done with a very fine grain scale. I don't expect it to change much/anything, but it's something to consider.

Looks good to me.  Thanks for the test, I can sleep better tonight.

I don't think I can change the scale with the software I'm using, but note that the grid lines are 5 dB apart, same as the DR-07 test.

I'll run a test with roll-off engaged tonight.

Thanks.  This recorder has become rather appealing now that the price has dropped well below that of the M10.

Thanks for the note about price.  B&H Photo Video has the DR-2D for $147.
