I was wonderin' if you could run a coax patch out while you are runnin' a optical out to your JB3 at the same time.

Believe so...that is why people but those converter boxes to convert the coax to optical(since the optical on the UA-5 is being used by the JB3) to give out patches to people.

Yes, both are constantly active as OUTPUTS.
The switch on the back is only to select which you would use as an INPUT.
