it has a very nice, wide soundstage with cards IMO. Typically run with subcards. But in a nice room, up front, it can give great results. for outdoors, I haven't heard many nos card tapes, but i will be doing a few in the near future.

I find NOS to be the best for DFC club shows...
NOS DFC - is more like mics pointed at the stacks...so you get a good bit of on-axis energy
Not great if you not in the center...

I always liked using a modified NOS in not so good sounding clubs when using cards. Esp if you don't have hypers available, using the std 30cm NOS spacing, but bringing your angle down to 75-80 degrees can make very good sounding tapes in poor environments if cards are all you have to work with. The wider spacing of NOS still allows for good stereo separation and soundstaging, but the smaller angle cuts out some of the room boom.
