Which mic is better for taping gigs -Sony ECM 719 or ECM MSD1?

In all honesty, I'd avoid either of them.  IF you can save up a bit more cash (not tons) you could get yourself some mics that will give you a much more satisfactory sound. Something as simple as an AT825 or AT822 mic (I think there's one for sale used in the yard sale right now) will yield much better results IMO.

I have, and still stealth with the 717, which is what the 719 was based on. For the money it is a great little mic. You have to be in the right spot with it though.

I don't know anything about the other mic you mentioned.
