Question about LMA
« on: November 11, 2007, 11:22:49 AM »
I finally uploaded my first show to LMA. Not as much of a chore as I thought, but what about the stream and download options? Was I suppossed to something or does the program take care of that?

I've looked around at faqs and on here but can't find anything yet.

If you select 'Allow Derivatives' (the default) when you are uploading you will get the mp3's etc.  If you change that option it will leave it as FLAC files only.

And if they don't show up, it's because one of your files failed the checksum. You should get an email saying which one failed, but sometimes they get caught in spam filters. If you can't find the email, you can go to the item's page, then go to Edit Item > Item manager > history and that should show you a list of tasks. Look for the red one, click on the task number, and scroll down until you see which one failed. Then just check the show back out (Edit item > item manager > checkout), replace the bad file, then go back to Edit item > item manager > derive and that'll re-run the derive task.

The subject line says md5 failures, and the e-mail says:

...one or more of the files you uploaded were corrupted during the upload process or were not uploaded at all.
You will need to replace the damaged or missing files to insure the integrity of your item for other downloaders..."

There is a link that is supposed to lead me to the info I need to correct, but it is the index of the ftp with the individual tracks.

If I attempt to edit from the main gig page, I get this:

"The item you are trying to edit cannot be retrieved from a "primary US node".

Potential reasons for problem:

    * a temporary item location failure
    * the identifier supplied may be invalid or references a removed resource
    * the item may be in the process of being edited"

Any thoughts?  Did I need md5 files?  I'd start over but can't delete it.

Yes, you need md5 files.  When you did the upload and filled in all those blanks there was a big field to paste them into.  I always include a .md5 file and a .ffp file in the files I upload as well.

Probably the best bet at this point is to "reply to" the error email with the md5sums.  An admin will probably get your email and fix it.  Those people are commendable for their ability to resolve these kind of issues.

Almost never do you delete the whole thing and start over.  Many times you can "edit item" (look for the link on the left).  If there was a problem with the mp3 derivation, I've sometimes had to delete the mp3s via ftp, and then used the "item manager" to re-derive them.

The first couple of uploads are the most awkward.  After that you get used to it.

You don't need to paste md5 files into that field, but it's nice if you do. If you include an md5 with your upload, the system will check the md5 against your files. If you don't include an md5 and your upload is in SHN format, the system will ask you for one. If you don't include an md5 and your upload is in FLAC format, the system will run the internal checksum of each file and let you know which one failed. Or if they all pass, it'll create an ffp file for you.

Yes, please do this. Reply to etree@archive.org (not the general address the report came from) so we get it quicker. :)

I would go to item manager>check out-edit item's files(non xlm). Then use your ftp program w/ new check out address to access your show files. Assuming you have burned these files in advance on CDR and know they are fine go into your main file and select all the files you included in your upload. Next drop them in your ftp program and check each file side to side and assume if the file is not complete or skip if they match. I have gotten in the habit of doing this before I check my new uploads in w/LMA to avoid errors. Also if you have other derivative files like mp3, stream etc delete and then check back in. Then again go to item manager>derive and you should get mp3 and stream files if all pass this time.

I'm in the middle of my first LMA upload, this is really helpful advice. Thanks +T

-oh and I noticed you put d1t1, d1t2, etc.  .....should be d1t01, d1t02.  That way if you allow streaming the show will remain in order.

edit:  wierd.... looking at the stream it is in order.  But the files in the download area are not.  Strange.  Never seen that before.

Go to item manager>checkout and then use ftp program w/ new ftp address. Change each track to to etree standard like mentioned above (xyz2007-11-15d1t01,xyz2007-11-15d102). I would also run a new ffp and text file and in the text file when you number your tracks leave a space w/ single digits period or zero and then number. This outa straighten the order out of the show and the tracks should be correct. Delete all the derivations in the upload file and then check back in. Next you need to go back to item manager>derive. Good luck and hopefully next time will be much easier.

I forgot to mention that you need to change the names of your tracks on your hard drive before you make a new ffp.txt file and then upload the new ffp.txt file of course after you delete the old one.
