Hey All
I am leaning heavily towards getting a UA-5 and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations about which mod to get: warm, presence or transparent? I plan on running AKG C4000 most of the time except when I stealth in which case I use DPA 4061 mics. To be honest though I rarely stealth so that's not as big a concern.
Thanks

Yeah I've downloaded all 11 samples and I am leaning heavily towards the presence mod. The problem though is that none of these samples is with a large diaphragm mic so I can't even begin to get a proper feel for the different mods. Plus all the mics the Oades have used I'm not really familiar with and don't have any recordings using them so I have no starting point on how they should sound. All I know is that the Warm mod is not even a consideration with large warm sounding mics like mine. Thanks for all the input so far.

i like the tmod and the pmod myself, the warm mod doesnt have that in-your-face presence that i like :)
either decision is gonna sound alright IMO, and if ya dont like that one, oades will change the mod for a nominal fee(50 bucks or something)

my advice is when in doubt get the warm mod. Warmth never killed anyone. imo

But with large diapghram mics you already have warmth, I'm afraid that this would be overkill and might make my recordings to muddy.
Anyway I've PM'd herrmann2burn so hopefully we'll be able to wrok something out.

Well said--- warm mod, can't go wrong even with LD mics

you are not going to get much if any coloration with AKG mics in my experience which includes 390s and 480s, so I would suggest that you avoid the transparent mod which will likely remove any coloration that your stock UA5 would offer, and you want some coloration to reduce background noise, I presently run 480>Digimod UA5 and I'm beginning to think that the Warm mod might offer more coloration might be a better choice for my AKG's
