Title: UA-5 battery question
Post by: sexymexi on August 14, 2003, 12:03:19 AM
i'm lookin at investing in a UA-5, and i know coresound sells ready to go portable sets with 6 or 8hr batts... but i was lookin around to see if i could get a better deal, by building my own battery.  the UA-5 runs on 9vdc, and i found some NI-MH batteries that are 9.6vdc.  i didn't think that .6 of a volt would be a problem, and i asked some friends here, and they didn't think so either, but you know, neither them nor i are the cream of the crop, and i thought what better of a place to ask than here...  so if anyone thinks this would work, or not, please let me know.. thanks.

I use 9.6 with no problems.  I think there is a link to directions for building a cable in the archive section.  If not, let me know and I can build you one.

As Kevin says, check the Archival Section for how to build a 9.6v RC battery.  And don't sweat the extra voltage - if you check the wallwart that comes with the UA5, it actually puts out 12+ volts!!

You can get roughly 6.5 hours of continual usage with phantom power turned on by using a 3000mAh battery found at batteryspace.com

Make the 2 battery cable and you can get 13 or so hours.

The battery runs about $30 and includes a 15-hour charger.

Don't forget that you can do the digi-mod yourself too. That info is in the archive.

yeh go with the 3000mAH from battery space.  I had a second 1700mAH on made for me at Batteries Plus about 3 days before I found this place.  Oh well.  I got about 4 1/2 hours w/o phantom power on the UA-5 w/ that battery... havent pushed it to capacity now that I am using the phantom power.
