Newbie advice !
« on: May 21, 2004, 06:28:50 PM »
Hi all,

I have recorded about 6 or 7 shows now with varying results.
I use these mics http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=110&template=mics# and this battery box similar to this http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=310&template=mics#. I use a minidisc for recording but dont have any digital out, so its transferred to PC via headphone out, and mic in on my soundcard.
You can check out some of my recordings on http://www.sellme.it. Snow Patrol and Keane are my latest ones (and probably my best). Could anyone give some advice on improving quality? Thinking of buying a JB3, will this help much.

Thanks

Norm

Welcome to the board.  There is a TON of info on this board...just poke around and you'll find plenty!!

As for your question on the JB3 I think it would help ya not losing any quality in your transfers and will make them much easier.

buying a JB3 will help
going line-in instead of mic-in on your PC will help
doing a digital transfer from a JB3 to your computer will help
going line-in front he battery box the the MD will help

Also, the page wasn't very specific about which mics you are using.  Can you be more specific?

Providing phantom power to your mics will help also

I dont think I will be doing that myself!
Lets get this right, the samson adapter contains a battery?
I want this for stealth recording shows.
Although Sound Professionals do this as a service, I will need to mail them from the UK back to the US. Thats a shame. Is it worth it?

TIA

the mod isn't that hard.  I had no soldering experience before I modded my set last week and I was successful
