Title: Oade pre questions...
Post by: BCostigan on February 04, 2004, 10:25:14 PM
Anyone know if an oade pre (m118) will pass phantom voltage?  I'm guessing if oade could change it from 18 to 48 it would be expensive?

I was thinking TL->118->ua-5  (hoping to use 48v phantom from the ua-5 as well as the a/d)

Seems the price on 148s is much higher than a 118 I see is still for sale.

Doug can mod the m118 to provide 48v, however not sure it can pass 48v from another source, probably not though if it is providing 18v already.

A cheaper (perhaps, don't know what doug would charge) option could be ADK>ps1>m118>ua5, but would kinda be a pain in the ass IMO . . .

can the TL's run off 18v? I believe the mbhos and schoeps cmc6, at least, can run off 18. I know the dpas require 48, not sure about neumanns, gefells, etc.

if I had mbhos or schoeps, I'd get the thing myself, I'd love to have another 20 db of gain, on demand, like a supercharger!! Someone gotta pick this thing up!

Not sure if I'm gonna do the 744 or get their 4 chan. mixer>V3>722.  If they allow the use of dig and analog inputs at the same time, then def the 744, but if only one or the other it might be a different story.

dilemma would be if one could sync the 2 digital audio together, since it might be a probability that the sd box ad converter has a delay/speed filter etc different from an outboard box.

This all depends on clocking. If you're going with 2 different digital inputs, the devices all need to be locked to the same master clock. If that can't be done (example - V3 and MiniMe can't be slaved, to my knowledge), the recorder will have to reclock/resample on the fly to prevent sync issues.

If you can do one analog + one digital, it seems like the SD box could slave to the outboard A/D and record all 4 tracks in sync. This is what my ULN-2 does (and it also has the SRC on the fly, should I desire that).
