do y'all use the softlimit??? what are the pros and cons?? I've used it ever time so far b/c I love to run hot as hell. thoughts??
-
I'd only use it for acoustic music. You can still run hot as hell without the s/l. It really compresses the music in an unnatural sounding way. I'd give up a hairs worth of volume for better dynamics anyday.

that's what I wanted to hear...some feedback. I've had a dat for 5 years but only the full rig for 5 monthes or so. will run without it for leftover sunday.
-
if you like it go ahead and run it... just given my personal opinion on it. F-ing great box, best sounding portable a/d ever made 8)
-
as I've never ran it without the softlimit on I really don't know. gonna try it and compare sunday. maybe one set with one without. and yes I LOVE the ad1000!
-
whatcha got in front of it?

yea , no pre yet. have been very happy just using the phatom power. but damn I want a m148 ;)
-
ad1k pres are passable but adding an m148 to the mix... well that's a whole nother echelon of taping my friend!
-
I know!! but for some reason after I bought the rig I've been broke as hell ??? that will be the next thing I buy.
-
that's the way it goes, no shame in that!
eaa-psp2 will be easier on the pocketbook and give you some great sound that is close to the GA Brick

that's what I've heard. how much do they run??
-
around $650 used... half price of a m148

I wouldn't trade my EAA > Apogee for anything. Not even a brick.
I only run SL at shows where the crowd is going to be significantly louder than the music, or if I'm feeling really lazy and want to push my levels without worrying about going over. Keep the yellows blinking fairly consistantly and you'll be good to go- it's got a pretty forgiving last few dB

If this is the Under The Influence tour with LoS and Del, definitely run soft limit for the acoustic LoS (1st) and Del (2nd) sets. In fact, I'd run it for the combined LoS/Del 3rd set as well. Third set will be electric and acoustic, and while the electric will be compressed a bit, the acoustic portion will turn out significantly better.
Just caught this tour last night - great stuff!
