microtrack 2496
« on: February 22, 2006, 06:08:04 PM »
So, I've read all the posts regarding the m-audio mt2496.  Now that's it's been out for a while, what do people think of it?  Still good choice?  Have all the "bugs" been worked out?  Are people happy with this recorder?

thanks for your help.

I like it for the bit dump that I use it for.  IF they fix the 2gb limit it will meet everything I need it to be.  IF not the 24/48 is OK.

After upgrading to 1.2.3 and once I figured out the unit's quirks - like only power on after the S/PDIF source is live, power off and back on before starting a 2nd recording to ensure the timer counts properly, etc. - it's proven very reliable for me.  But as you know from the other threads, YMMV.

I think its kind of hit or miss.  I'm still not comofortable running it without a backup.

As a bit dump its not so bad tho, just make sure you check it before show time, I've had it reset to defaults on me before.  I've also had it corrupt files on me on one occasion.

I guess out of all of my experiences tho, I've been more successful with it then not, but I still don't think its as reliable as my jb3 is.

like only power on after the S/PDIF source is live,

I've never heard of this bug.  I don't think I've ever turned it on without the S/PDIF feed alreadyg going, though, so that's probably why.

Not much over an hour and a half.

Ive used mine a few times, ad have only had one freeze up error.

It was when I cut the signal, before I shut off the MT.

although I still don;'t think ill be able to run it solo if Im the only taper, lol
Seriously, the band makes the music. Tapers just point mics in the right direction and hit "record".

That's good to hear!  The last patcher I had complained about my AKGs, fluffed schoeps for about 15 minutes, stayed patched in, and farted on me all night long.
