open with CD wave, split into chunks under 2g, then open in SF.

this obviously doesnt apply to SF, but doesnt Wavelab 6.0 defeat the 2GB wav limit ???

if so, whos got a demo copy of Wavelab 6.0 I can try out ? I may need it when I jump into the 24-bit realm later this summer/phall :)

Samplitude is superior to Wavelab, IMHO...and doesnt have the 2g limit. I bought my copy, but there are many demo versions of samplitude 7 floating around..

you should give it a whirl, Bean...it is fantastic. DVD-Audio natively, multitrack, POWR dither...

I actually have samplitude 6.0 ray and i friggin HATE it, its clunky and i could NEVER get it to play music thru my speakers for some reason ???

but its too damn slow/clunky IMO, unless 7.0 is a whole nother ballgame

You probably had it set up wrong...clunky is defintitely not a samplitude thing..it is blazing fast, way more efficient than WL or SF.

well, not set up per se...but there are some playback options that maybe you didnt check? you have to make sure your soundcard is in the playback window, etc... ive only used 7.0 and now have purchased v8 (and sequoia) but I do know with both of those, if your soundcard isnt displayed in the playback options, you wont get any sound.I know that from experience.

I too really like Samplitude.  It’s a definite learning curve that’s for sure. But the +'s out weight the -'s

Your playback problem sounds like a real easy fix that you just overlooked
Simply open Samplitude and look in the bottom right hand corner and see if it does not say 24 bit playback.

If so hit the "Y" key on your keyboard and select 16 bit playback (under device resolution) and see if that don’t fix your problem.

Winamp files?  ???

Are the files 24-bit?  If so, when splitting with CD-Wave try ticking the "Use Alternate 24-bit Format" checkbox (or something like that).  If not, I'm no help.
