Title: Reflective tape or glow in the dark for stands?
Post by: ChrisV on May 10, 2004, 09:16:38 PM
So I've got a completely black stand and I figure I should maybe make it a little more visible to people walking around so at least the people who are semi-alert won't trip over the legs of my stand and fall on their asses.

Thinking of putting either some strips of reflective tape on each leg near the bottom....but then I was thinking maybe I'll go with glow in the dark tape instead.   I bet that would look dorky but I don't care ;p
Anyone have any experience with glow in the dark tape? lol.  I went looking for some and couldn't find any.  May have to go the online route....looking for some that's glow will last a while before needing to be "recharged".

So far I've found a site for some stuff called Halo Glow Tape that claims it is "made from a secret mix or minerals (non-toxic) that are mined deep in the earth. Our glow in the dark tape is 50 times brighter than the competition and lasts up to 10 hours."  and "Light Yellowish Green in color HALO Glow Tape keeps its maximum luminescence for about 15 minutes. It then looses about half of its brightness and remains at that level for up to 10 hours"

Interesting ;p

www.markertek.com has glow tape as well.

We have tried the reusable glow lights battery operated but i found they emit a very high pitched sound that can be picked up by the mic s if close enough. The best thing i have found is to kick down a few bucks to the Glo vendor and get some for the night. They tend to work best. And if there is ever a Glo WAr do throw back, keep them and load up the stand :)

Glow strings could do the trick too...or just get a pre with pretty flashing lights. :)

i think it might be distracting for those seated behind you....plus it would just make your stand more attactive to people walking by to hang onto, imo.

but to each his own

 ;D

Everytime I turn my MP2 meters on high I get Phish glowstick war flashbacks. Those lights are blinding...

In my experience, everytime I've tried to make the stand more visible I've ended up having to do more hand slapping. Seems folks are drawn to the light and  like to grab the stand to help them through the crowd.

Yeah, hopefully I won't have it to be too much of a distraction or stand grabbing magnet.  I am planning to put a single small strip down as far as I can on each leg just above the area where any duct tape would go when I need to tape it down.

I just went with some white super reflective tape I have for now....see how I like it brightness wise....if it doesn't show up enough then I may go for the glow route ;)

Anybody ever try this stuff? I was looking for reflective paint for a sign project and never did find anything (apparently the only stuff that comes close is some paint used by the train industry for box cars). This stuff might have worked though. I wonder how long it actually glows and if it can be used outside.  I might have to check my local hobby lobby to see if they carry this stuff.

Thats why i taped them only to the legs..so they are visible and folks dont trip on em.

I use surveyor's ribbon and wrap the legs of my black stand. A combo of pink and yellow ribbon usually works.

Mini-glow sticks!  Mini versions of the glostick....I seen them in Bubble gum machines and on ebay.  They look perfect for the job.
