my first hour with the 722 (with pics)

first thing i did was open it up and found a samsung 40 gig drive in it.  it's just suspended in there, with foam protecting it

i was afraid to take the ide connector off but it came off.  i attached the new drive and spent about 10 min trying to put it back together.  you have to line the bottom up so that little tabs click into place, then put the screws back in

formatting was automatic.  it asked if i wanted to format, and gave me a bunch of "are you really sure you want to do this" messages.  good stuff.  can't do that by mistake

menu is very self explanatory i think.  setting up time and basic recording settings (sample rate/bit depth) was very easy. 

i recorded a few min of a 24/96 show through AES in (AES out from computer).  worked like a charm.  the transfer of the 100 megs happened in less than 30 seconds.  fast firewire speed (firmware 1.15 came on it)

played fine.

with v3 for comparison. i put them flat on top of each other.  they are the same width, but the 722 is actually not as deep.  you can see where the v3 is deeper..

it fits in the same pack i use to stealth an mp2 and d100 even with the huge battery (and it's not a big pack, just a standard EMS one).  i just need some right angle xlr adaptors for the 4022s i think

good point, it still looks like it will be tough to crotch when necessary...am I misjudging the size?
