Bag Pics and more
« on: August 23, 2008, 12:28:49 AM »
I finally got a camera bag.  I brought all my gear to ritz camera and tried out several bags and came away with what i believe was a real deal.  $85.00  Quantaray Pro U-100.

Holds

Canon 40D
battery grip
70-200 L IS 2.8
16-35  L 2.8
24-70  L 2.8
580 flash
hoods
filters, etc

Some others

Takamine sante fe
Martin D15
Paul reed smith custom 22

Take a little dip?  The pool off of my living room- There are four sliding glass doors that telescope to open out to the pool.  To the left of the picture but out of view are two other sliding glass doors that telescope to give a kinda large open feel to the house with the pool off of the living room and master bedroom.  I finally could take a pic with the wide angle lens

Taken with 16-35mm L

That's a sweet bag.  I'm actually starting to think about looking for a new one myself but i'm dont really want a backpack.

Currently i've got canon 350D/10-22, 24-70/2.8, 70-200f4 (soon to 2.8), 50/1.8.  I've got a little northface hip pack but its just getting too tight in there.  But i like it because its very low key. Not to mention i can still have it over my shoulder while pulling glass from it.
Gear: Canon 350D, Canon 430EX, Canon 10-22mm/3.5, Canon 50mm/1.8, Canon 24-70mm/2.8, Canon 70-200mm/2.8 IS

Me too, I never thought of a backpack style bag, i was totally against it, but then as i physically took camera gear in the store and went thru many bags the back pack style ended up being the one. It really feels balanced and the gear protected with it slung over the shoulders.

Well after i picked up the 70-200 2.8 IS i was in need of a new bag.  I went with this same bag you recommended.  Bought it yesterday and used it pretty much for 12 hours at the Harley Davidson 105th anniversary in Milwaukee.

Here's what i like.
1.  My gear is safe in this bag.  Well padded, i like the extra dual bag inside that offers a layer of protection.  This should also work great in bad weather conditions.
2.  Plenty of room for all the gear i have.  Pretty much the same rig as you have, except i'm still shooting an XT and not a 40D.  I dont have a flash but i also have a 50mm prime.  Plenty of inside pockets for keeping organized too.

What i dont like.
1.  Not very comfortable.  I dont know if i like the way the straps are with the rubbery stuff on them.  Obviously they help keep the bag on your back and not slide off, sometimes it would be nicer if it did slide off a bit easier. I also thought the back pad could be better.
2.  I miss my shoulder bag being able to not take the bag off or set it down and being able to change gear.

That said.  I think for the price I am happy.  I didnt want to spend a whole lot more and now i have a true camera bag.  My other bag was a simple northface hipsack converted into a camera bag.

Gear: Canon 350D, Canon 430EX, Canon 10-22mm/3.5, Canon 50mm/1.8, Canon 24-70mm/2.8, Canon 70-200mm/2.8 IS

Now there's something you don't see every day.

Pix of a camera bag on TS.com that actually houses *photo* gear.  ;D
