Title: DB25 Digtal Dsub Cable Questions
Post by: NOLAfishwater on March 02, 2012, 02:02:18 PM
Anyone have experience with using a digital DSUB25 cable? I have a Tascam HSP82 and the only way to go digital into it is to use the 25 pin Dsub connector. Looks like there are different types of cables but the one that looks like what I need has 4in 4 out aes xlrs. Does each of those carry a left and right channel like off the V3? If I buy a premade one, can the AES XLR connector be switched out for a SPDIF coaxial (rca) connector. Pin Assignment for the HSP82 connector is attached. Here is what I was looking at:

AES format carries left and right signals across one connector.  You can't reliably use an aes signal on a spdif input, so you would need 4 of these: these  (http://www.proaudio.uk.com/dip/c4home.htm) or equivalent.

I've found that DB25 connectors are a real pain to solder and make rock solid.  I would go with a prebought cable or chop the ends of an existing dsub cable and put your new connectors on the "other end."

retail price $299. that what I was quoted from a couple of the dealers who said they had never sold one before. then one emailed me back with $210. either way it was way too expensive. so I decided to check on Ebay for the specific model number and lo and behold someone had one new in packaging for $65. so I jumped on it.

Tascam, Yamaha, Panasonic, etc.....all have different pinouts on the same DB25 connector.
Make sure it's for Tascam. Should say in manual.

I noticed the different pin configs when I first started shopping for one of them. The one made by ALVA is designed for use with Tam.
