Hello everyone, my M10 is no longer recognizing any micro SD card. I could always reinsert the card once or twice and get it to read, but now it's not reading anything. The deck still works beautifully in every other way. Do you think it's OK to give that little slot a blast from a can of compressed air, something that is safe for electronics? I remember reviving a DVD drive in an old computer with a stream of hot air from a hair dryer, on the theory that it would dislodge dust and crud, but I don't want to try that with something that I value a great deal.
-
So the deck is “broken” for all intents and purposes , I say nothing ventured nothing gained..
-
Well, FWIW, it still has a nice internal memory.

I don't think so; it does a great job of recording shows, but can't write to the drive.

Likely dirt/crud on the electrical contacts. Treat them like audio contacts and clean with alcohol/contact-cleaner. Apply solvent then insert/remove the card multiple times to scrub the dampened contacts clean.
In the past this has fixed this problem on several handhelds for me.

I'm not super familiar with the USB function on the M10, but can you access the micro SD files via the mini USB port?
-
Also remember that the slot has 2 different directions of inserting the cards. One for microSD and another direction for Memory stick.
I never remove mine just transfer files thru usb cable.

I use these at work for cleaning iPhone/android inputs:

Probably use contact cleaner with the micro brush.

So, at the risk of being too obvious: Have you tried a different micro SD card in there?

boltman, it won't see any cards.

Blast the card slot with an aerosol contact cleaner. Just be sure the cleaner contains no lubricant (some do). Go ahead, you won't hurt it. https://www.amazon.com/DeOxit-Cleaning-Solution-Spray-spray/dp/B0002BBV4G/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=electrical+contact+cleaner&qid=1554925288&s=industrial&sr=1-3 (https://www.amazon.com/DeOxit-Cleaning-Solution-Spray-spray/dp/B0002BBV4G/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=electrical+contact+cleaner&qid=1554925288&s=industrial&sr=1-3)

Thanks, will try that.

yes, and to answer an earlier question, you can access the card and the internal memory from the usb. I also never remove the card in mine.
-
I also never remove the cards from mine. I also don't format my card regularly, which is not said to be advisable, but it has worked for me, since I am not generating a huge number of files before deleting them. Maybe a couple hundred a year at the most?
-
The card is a pain to insert. I have only removed it once and it has never seen the light of day for nearly 5 years or more. I do reformat the card every once and a while.
-
I’ve never been tempted to remove it, but shall format it at the (+T) advice.
I seldom need to use card memory, anyways. The m10 seems to hold plenty for me at my preferred 44.1/24 rate.

what about a memory stick?

what about a memory stick?
That is a good idea to try an M2 card (Sony mini memory stick form factor)
Totally different pins.
