Topic: DIY Silver XLR's W/Stubbies

Just built a set of silver xlr's, bought 25ft of 24awg twisted teflon silver cable off ebay for 13.49 shipped, 25ft of carbon techflex for like 6-7 bucks from parts express and the the nuetrik xlr connectos from parts express also(not the cheapest but came with the tech flex and the only charged 3.80 to ship all that), drilled a hole in the side of the male xlr at just the right angles for my 702 and bag setup then ground down the male xlr's on my bench grinder and then smoothed them out with a dremel, made real nice solders and used the proper heat shrink colors , jacketed the wires in the tech flex leaving around 16-18 inches free on the mic end and 6-8 inches on the recorder end, heat shrank over the ends of the tech flex to lock them in place and hot glue filled the stubbies after making sure the connections were sound, i think they turned out pretty good. I figured that the 12ft set cost about 35 bucks total, not to bad.

Thats an awesome idea. 

The epoxy I used leaked and I was cleaning up constantly until it set.  Next time - hot glue.

I like hot melt glue too

but
I have heard that gas tank putty works great
I had a bad experience with JB weld

on my XLR-F to be epoxy'd ... which sucked...

any line or links on source for
mil-spec silvers

Ebay is where i got it(you can find it in 2 or 3 conductor) with a tip from bdasilva, the biggest thing that really jumped out at me the first time i tested them was how much less self handling noise there was, huge difference between the mil spec and the standard canare star quad.

+ T for the DIY and for the "stubbies". I was thinking about chopping the connectors on my NT4 cable but the way I pack my rig it really didn't make any sense to do so. Hot glue isn't a bad idea for this at all; it's removable at non-damaging temperatures (in the unlikely event that anything goes wrong with the connection) and it's definitely prettier than (grey) gas tank putty.
