Title: Bose 601 series II
Post by: lsd2525 on January 08, 2016, 10:24:37 PM
OK. Got these several years ago as an old debt payment. Been sitting in a closet for years. I haven't actually pulled them out and fired them up but from what I remember, they need a little TLC. My question: is it worth it to check on getting them reconed? Checked a few ebay prices, but I'm really not up on the subject. Are these the 1988 Chrysler K car of speakers? Or something I should seriously consider reconditioning?

I just looked them up... pretty cool looking speaker!!!  Vintage is in... if they sound good they are good... its all about the ears.

With that said the one thing Bose has always annoyed me with is; they don't publish specs.  While specs don't tell you everything they tell you some important things.  I like to know Frequency response with in +-3db and efficiency of a speaker. Those are two important ones Bose always tends to leave out... and they try to dazzle you with marketing.

I would say this... to me they are worth the "reconing" and maybe a refinishing job or put them up for sale in the yard sale section for someone who may want to do it.  Check out Parts Express for the supplies you may need to recone.

I gotta say it again they are just a really cool looking speaker and I would be very curious how they sound.

Peace OOK

Me too. I need to pull them out and look again, but if I remember correctly most of the drivers are pretty eat up
