24.192 discs?
« on: March 16, 2007, 12:35:38 PM »
Hi folks.  I have a couple dvd-audios that have 24bit/96K 2-channel audio, but I'm looking for something 24.192, mostly just to see if I can hear a difference and to really test out my Pioneer Elite universal player.  Any suggestions/recommendations?

Loving the SACD's though. :)

Neil Young's DVD-A titles are 24/176 stereo I believe.  Not the new ones but Harvest, Reactor, Hawks n Doves, and American Star and Bars.

WTF? Did they simply take the cd recordings at 44.1 and upsample them? That's uber lame!

If Neil Young is as much of an audiophile as I hear he is, I'd imagine they did some clever remastering from the original master tapes - I don't think he'd stand for anything less.

usually sampled at Hi-Res to downsample later, so 24/192 seems troublesome to some and of little advantage over 24/176.4 which downs nicely to 16/44.1 for CDs

You want to seek out a boutique label called Hi-Res who has mastered some gorgeous stuff at 24/192:

Everything that Neil records is on 2" tape.  This way, as new formats come out his music can be transferred onto whatever new and exciting options are made available.
