Cheap power for JB3...
« on: July 01, 2004, 11:20:48 PM »
http://batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=471  Looks like these would power the JB3 for 5 hrs @ 800ma per hour.  Not bad for $13!  Good for that long double-bill show.  If you paralleled two of them it should last 9-10hrs no??

I dunno if these have been tested or not from that huge 20+ page JB3 power thread.   But I think this would sorta be like hooking up 4 rechargable 1.2 V batteries together.   People who did that has some success but the only problem was when fully charged the voltage was slightly too high so it had to be discharged some before the JB3 would accept it.

That's exactly right.  At full charge, the voltage is just a little over the limit, and the JB3 will not start up.  You need to pull the internal battery to unlock it once it's been give this 'overvoltage'.
When I used it, I'd charge the batteries and then take a regular 12v halogen bulb and run it on the pack for about a minute.  If the JB3 powers up, you're in the range.

..just a forwarning on the external power.. i ran a homemade 1 at a show .. had to run it down a  bit but after that no problem .. after its runs down a little more the voltage drops even more .. locking up the jb3.. i lost half of 2 shows doing it.. be prepared and if you think it may be getting weak switch to internal's... !!  experience hurts sometimes .. but i wont happen again..

peace and good luck
