Integrated Options
« on: August 31, 2007, 09:41:53 AM »
Looking for options for an integrated amp, no matter SS or tube, I want to be able to run my dvd-a player through it so I can playback 24/96 dvd-as. Budget is $500-$1000, prefer used. Haven't been looking at agon recently and have fallen out of keeping up with playback gear as my speakers have been locked up since April. Opinions?

Thanks
Trey

What speakers are you wanting to use?  The Naim Nait 5i is supposed to be a great unit, built like a tank and fantastic sounding but it doesn't work well with all speakers.  It's around 50 a channel I believe.

If you have efficient speakers, consider the Almarro A205A mk2. I love mine.

I have an Almarro A205A mk2 amp and a set of Hornshoppe Horns I'm going to be selling.  I'd love to sell them both to one person and keep them  all in the taperssection family.  The amp is practically new and the speakers were purchased used on audiogon but are still in great shape.  Let me know if you're interested.  As others on the board can attest to, this is a great little setup.  I've since moved on to a more powerful amp and am forced to thin the herd otherwise I'd be keeping everything.

the more I think about it, I could have a tube integrated with a cage where the kids wouldn't be into touching these, or inside the unit be a SS may be better for me, not ruling anything out.

Pick up a used Acurus DIA-100.  These were $1k new and perform like seperates.  Used prices are in or even under your budget.

Or I'll sell ya a used Aragon 24ksp preamp and Rotel RB-980BX with the B&W speakers.  ;D

I've, as well as a lare amount of audio press, have been pretty intrigued by the Shanling A3000. The A3000's Volume control is performed by motorized ALPS potentiometer. The Shanling A3000 also has 4× RCA, 2× balanced XLR input, 1× power amplifier input, 1× pre-amplifier line output and 1× headphone monitor output.

Shanling A3000 Integrated Amp Specifications:

My Aronov 60w tube integrated is still available (http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,87783.0.html).  I just lowered the price by $200 (it's now $!300).  This is my personal integrated, not a trade-in.

Hey, budgets change but an amp like that may well be the last one you ever buy. I'm a big proponent of do it right, do it once and be done with it. I see so many people trying to cut corners (not saying that is what Trey is doing at all) at work to meet a specific budget and then doing the whole system over in under 5 years when they aren't happy with the results. I've always tried to buy with value in mind. I'd rather spend $1500 for a amp worth 3K then spend $1300 for an amp worth pretty much exactly $1300. The Shanling has specs that you won't find on another product for under $3K (if even at that) and all the reviews I've seen have been very positive about its musicality.

"Dual EH6922 tube input buffer stage" The Tubes are in the input stage (where I would argue that it is for more than marketing). the 8×SANKEN 2SA1295 and 2SC3264 are solid state transistors for the output. Heck, I'd love to see a $1700.00 amp that can pull 200w @ 8O with a tubed output stage. Normally to see this kind of juice on a tube amp you would be looking at $20,000.00+ mono blocks.  ;D Shanling is a solid company and has won some pretty serious critical acclaim for their tubed SACD players.
