Anyone tried mk21h's in the field?
« on: June 16, 2003, 04:35:44 PM »
I am about to split a pair of mk21s with a friend and see some mk21h's on ebay.  Apparently, they have a high freq boost.  Has anyone tried the h's before?  Just wondering how they might compare to the regular mk21s..  Thanks for any help. :spin:

I think the boost would help if you wanted to use these in far field recording, say sub cards from the section, or using them a little father back than you wanted to.

I wouldn't use them from the section except for a few situations, like outdoors on flat ground.  Mostly, they'll be up front and onstage.  I doubt that I would like the boost as I generally prefer the 4s to the 4vs.  However, if I can save a few hundred dollars, I am up to reconsider :afro:

I was splitting these with a friend and ended up buying a new pair of mk21's without the HF boost.  The way I saw it was, I'd rather have exactly what I wanted and spend a little extra now, than get the cheaper ones and always wish I had gotten the reg. 21s.  My share was about $160 more to get the new  fully warranteed ones.

Also, everything I read on the 21h's led me to believe that they were not made for our application.

I won't get to use them for a while, but I'll report once I do!

So I guess the trial period was a success!  I want to hear the results :)

I haven't had a chance to run yours yet.  Dave mailed them back to me without the NOS bar.  The Kwon Bar was shipped out yesterday.  I'll drop everything in the mail as soon as the bar arrives.  Thanks again!
