I have no real exp. with the PMod UA5, but as I am shopping around for a WMod UA5, I thought I might be able to help...
What got me thinking about this was a comp I did with a friend few weeks back. He ran AKG 391>MP2>M1 while I ran ADK A51S LEs>UA5>JB3. His recording had more low-end. Mine had brighter mids and highs.
As I am lacking low-end, I thought I'd add a WMod or WMod+ to my UA5...
Sorta along this same line, I think I would add the PMod to the AKG 391s, to help brighten up the high-end...
So my recommendation would be AKG39x series...

i always thoguht the studio projects c4s would sound nice with the pmod.

In the interest of confusing the issue: I think you should pick your mics first, and then decide what pre/ADC you want to run. :)

yeah, that would be the smart thing to do, but Im gettin a really good price for it..and Ive heard a ton of good stuff,re the ua-5 and the oade boys would mod it for me in any way i wanted.

Hey, if you're getting a good deal...
Tough to go wrong with any of the Oade mod UA5's, IMO. Some may not pair well with certain mics, but they're all quality gear as far as I'm concerned.
...Go for it!

is your wife signed up here at TS.com? :P
tell her that you need some neumann U89i's to beefen up that pmod ;)
actually any warm sounding microphone with the P-mod would do IMHO. go LD's 8)

I miss mine. I'll buy another pair in the future but I really want an active setup to go with them, they were just too much to deal with sometimes. Estrin had u89s and a schoeps active setup, eventually that's what I'll run too.

the only show that i know of off hand that i've heard with a p-mod ua5 is this one:
http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=17124
sounds good, considering the band didn't really like the sound of the room.... though i think it could use a little more bass
i taped a show with joe a few months ago.... didnt think anyone else would tape, walked in the door, and 2 othertapers were already set up (joe, and the other was a guy in the opening band). I"d really like to hear the difference between different sources from pretty much the same place, but i havent gotten around to asking for a copy ;) the band asked us not to spread the show around (because the dumbass running the soundboard/owner of the club did a shitty job), so i'm happy to have my copy ;D

TL! TL! TL!
;)
Seriously, I have w-mod w/ TL's, and I think, overall, that it lacks a bit of clarity- which I think would be nicely remedied by the p-mod
just my .02 tho

LD's are inherently less detailed than sd's.... they lack that bite, for lack of a better term. The size of teh diaphragm causes them to be slower and less detailed and more "musical"...

I run Studio Projects C4's off my UA5 warm mod and I'm very satisfied.
Don't forget to pick up something to read your levels with though, like a svu or svu2 or borrow somebody's dat or use an old dat, or something. all you get on the ua5 is a flashing red blinker and on the jb3 it's really hard to read the levels in the dark.
Have fun.

I was just going to ask a similar question about this mod. Right now I have the Marshall MXL 1006 BP's. I do enjoy these, but I thought they would be better with an oade mod. I am also thinking about getting the TLs soon, but I don't want to go the same route as a lot of people (seems most have the w mod with them). So right now I am either thinking off getting both the ua-5 and the tl's or just keeping my current mics and getting a p mod ua-5. Does anyone have any clips with the TL's and the P Mod? I would love to hear that.
