Does anyone run the cheap a-51 not the tl's?? Any opinions??

Cheap? Don't you mean "inexpensive"???
I use ADK A51S LEs (Type IV)... Costigan (methinks) used to have Type VI LEs. Not sure if they made a Type V LE.
The LEs were a limited edition matched pair... They have all been superceded by the Hamburg and Vienna models...

Mine are "just" A51S mics. They are just a matched pair, and came with a silver body rather than black.
Anyways, I love 'em... If you are looking to get a set, I recommend them. Make sure to get A51S rather than just A51. I picked them up when I first got started because a local taper and TS veteran, JasonB, was using them. I figured he knew what he was talking about and he was right.
As for my mics, if you want an idea, the highs are very crisp and nice. Low end is lacking, more for the LD than anything. I'm thinking of getting a WMod UA5 to help. I've taped in lots of diff environments, and I love their onstage sound. Back further, not as good as hypers or SD mics, especially on low end, I end up getting a bit too much aud noise, more to do with cardioid than anything...
I'd love to move up to TLs, but I have more important things to buy first...
