Title: Matched vs Un-Matched pairs
Post by: kindms on December 26, 2004, 05:43:24 PM
I did a search and I really didnt see an answer that fit so hopefully this isnt covered somewhere else.

Any Idea of how different a set of un-matched AKG 414 B - ULS could sound. Provided they are in the same shape etc

Is there a possibilty of a major "sound" difference or is the AKG Quality Control enough that they would be extremely close in response etc.

Also do you think 1100.00 incl. shipping is a good price for a pair ?

price looks good, about $300 lower than most sets I have seen. Wouldn't worry to much about the matching, those are quality mics

Another 414er!  FWIW, mine aren't match and I haven't noticed a difference - though I haven't had much opportunity to run them since I got 'em.  I agree with others - AKG seems strong enough in their quality to control I wouldn't sweat it.

...by the way, the new c414 xls models will also be available as matched stereo pairs with consecutive numbers. I'll get mine in february... :)

1.  no
2.  hell yes

and regarding the XLS.  Did you guys see mention of the "remote controll" for these?  Should be out this year sometime.  Allows you to make all the mic adjustments (polar pattern, roll off...etc) from the remote.  Mmm.....!
Something tells me they wont make a stereo box, so it would require one for each mic...but still, thats like having a c426b if you mount the mics coincident.  delicious!
fwiw, i've found the 414XLS-ST (stereo) kit for under $1600 on some goof ass web site.  Cheapest i've seen...and i've been looking!

Call Sonic Sense! I got an even better quote from them ($1455 - nice!). The crazy remote thing sounds like a nice little toy to me, too... From what I've read about the mics so far, they're supposed to sound pretty much like the uls's. I'm going to run them into T+ MOD UA-5 > D100 / Samsung P30 notebook... Can't wait!  ;D

Sure! Will definitely use them for Los Lobos in March and hopefully for Luna in Feb, if they've arrived by then, that is.
