I'm thinking of buying multiple pattern LD mics. One obvious choice is ADK A-51 TLs. They sound really great and lots of people run them. I am also interested in the Studio Projects C-3. The SP large diaphram C-1 and C-3 got very good reviews, but I've not heard of anybody using them for recording shows. People around here really like their C-4 pairs. I really like the recordings I've heard with the SP LSD-2, which I think uses the same LD condensers as the C-1 and C-3.
So, here's my questions:
1. Anybody around here ever run the C-3?
2. If the C-1, C-3, and LSD-2 use the same condensers, why do they have different low-end response (2o Hz, 40 HZ, 30 Hz, respectively)?
3. How much does it matter that the C-3 frequency response of the C-3 is 40 - 40K (the TL has a 20 - 20 K frequency response)?
4. Should I care that SP does not sell matching pairs of the C-3?
5. Can I get my hands on a pair of these to test out before I buy them?
I know that Allen from SP reads this board occasionally. Maybe he'll answer my questions. I'd also like to hear other opinions.
