studio projects c-4...pretty nice!

got a bunch of shows from O-Dog, and I'm really impressed. I put away some $$ to pick up some Omnis for the summer, and had settled on TL's, but I'm rethinking that...!

Thinking about getting a pair untill I can afford some 391's.  Heard an omni source that sounded nice off etree archives.  Any more news on when C-4 hypers are due out?

nope, not really a priority for sp, hypers get used so rarely in the studio they can often be a money loser for a mic company, i understand why they have it kind of on the backburner.

i did a little bit of close micing of an acoustic guitar with nylon strings as well as steel strings, came out nice and warm and round, think of a km184 but with a heavier emphasis on tonality if that makes sense.

In the latest issue of Tape-OP magazine, there is a picture of a bunch of small diam mics someone used in a shoot out. The C4s are included in the picture. The website for the shootout is http://www.thelisteningsessions.com/

I'm always afraid of breaking those things :P

Marc, I can loan you these anytime.  As you know... I have other options  ::)

Glad you like them.  Would have really had a great time going head to head at JMP in Aug.  Perhaps another time :)

im surprised with your stack of mics you havent sold some and gone to some higher end mics.  not dissing your mics, come on, im the one who started the c4 fluffing :) but interesting selection.

Hypers can be nice in the studio, especially around drums and monitors, for isolation.
They'll make their money back if they live up to the omnis and cards in performance, IMHO.

Since jonny started fluffing these, I've been interested in getting some. I don't get out much anymore (2 kids, wife, no phish tour, not much heading through Michigan). I just can't justify spending cash on something "High End". I've been going back and forth between these and the Superlux's. I'm about 99% sure these sound better than the lux's but that price on ebay for the lux's. But I think in the end if I do end up getting some new mics it will probably be the C4's.

Hey guys,  HP Caps will come end of 1st Q 2005. C4's are back in stock after a 7 week dry spell, so those who want them, they can get them.

We are working on some SD Valve mics so we have been busy. We have also come up with some pretty innexpensive electret SD mics, but not sure we want to go there as they are very innexpensive. We do not want to get mixed up with too much confusion with all the different series of SD mics, but we think we will bring this new electret out as a B4. Sold in single lots instead of pairs.

Any comments or suggestions from you guys are always appreciated, especially since it is you guys that buy them....  :)

Really, hyper-cardioid caps for the C-4's? If that's true, it's great news!
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

I am interested in electrets.  I'm currently using AT853.  Anything comparable to this (or better) is interesting to me.  Also, I'm interested in buying the bodies + capsules separately from the phantom power stuff.  I need something with "three wire" power though.  The best bet might be to sell mics with a standard 3-wire connector, like mini XLR.  That way people could use phantom adaptors, a battery box made by you, or their own box.

Mics: Sennheiser MKE2002 (dummy head), Studio Projects C4, AT825 (unmodded), AT822 franken mic (x2), AT853(hc,c,sc,o), Senn. MKE2, Senn MKE40, Shure MX183/5, CA Cards, homebrew Panasonic and Transsound capsules.
Pre/ADC: Presonus Firepod & Firebox, DMIC20(x2), UA5(poorly-modded, AD8620+AD8512opamps), VX440
Recorders: Edirol R4, R09, IBM X24 laptop, NJB3(x2), HiMD(x2), MD(1).

The new electrets will also be battery powered and run comfortably on AA batteries for hundreds and hundreds of hours. They can also be powered by phantom power. Will this not work for you?

Yeah, that sounds great, as long as they are battery powered.

Good news on the HC caps, Alan.  Any hints on pricing at all?

Thanks! +T

We think they will retail for $125.00 for the set, but we will not know until they are done for sure....

Couple sets of C4's available on ebay right now, bidding at about $160 per set.  Not associated with the auctions, just looks like a good deal.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>

That sounds like a great deal.  Seems like not too long ago you couldn't pick up even an acceptable pair of mics of less than $800.  Now you can put together a pretty darn good entire rig for that.
